Safety Information for Tradies

Work Health and Safety Regulations and the impact for Tradies

Whats Changed?

As of 1st January 2013, new Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations impact on Tradies, as well as Builders (principal contractors).  Failure to comply with the legislation may result in significant fines in NSW, QLD, SA, & TAS.

High Risk Construction work

Trades must now determine if they perform high risk construction work on each job, and if so, then you have new obligations under the WHS regulations.
You can determine if you do high risk construction work by reviewing the list of activities that are categorised as high risk construction work.

Safety Documents

Subcontractors are required to have following Work Health and Safety documents:

1. Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) for any high risk construction activities.
Learn more about SWMS here.

2. Safety Data Sheets (SDS’s) for any hazardous chemicals bought on site.
Learn more about SDS’s here.

3. Hazardous Substances register for any hazardous chemicals.

4. Tag & Test register for any electrical equipment.
