Geofencing & Auto-Attendance for Construction Sites

You might have seen terms like ‘geo-fencing’, ‘auto-attendance’, ‘silent arrivals’ around lately, but what are they and how do they work?

This article will give take you through what geo-fencing and auto-attendance are, how we implement them within SiteBook, and how you can make them work for your business.

 

What is Geofencing / Auto-Attendance?

Geofencing is a location-service which uses a virtual perimeter or ‘geo-fence’ to detect whenever a device enters or exits the area.

In SiteBook’s case, the device is a phone with the SiteBook mobile app, and the area is a perimeter around your worksites.

Once auto-attendance has been set up, SiteBook can detect whether a worker’s device has entered or exited a worksite, and automatically updates the corresponding attendance record.

 

How does it work?

A perimeter is set up in SiteBook, around your worksite.

Workers can enable auto-attendance within the mobile app which conducts periodic checks in the background, to detect whether their phone is within the site perimeter.

If the phone is within the ‘geo-fence’, the user is automatically checked-in to the worksite.

If the phone leaves the ‘geo-fence’, the user is automatically checked-out of the worksite.

The Auto-Attendance can be configured to enable a notification for the user to confirm their arrival or departure.

Otherwise, we also have a ‘Silent Arrival’ option which arrives and departs the user automatically.

What are the benefits of Auto-Attendance?

Personnel attending worksites can simply switch on auto-attendance, then travel between sites without having to check-in each time.

No QR-Codes, no arrive/depart confirmations, you don’t even have to open the app – everything is taken care of in the background.

Just log-in, flick the auto-attendance switch, and go about your day.
