Getting the Most out of Your Site Sign

What Does a Construction Site Sign Need to Include?

Under the SafeWork Australia Model Code of Practice, construction projects valued at $250,000 or more must display a site sign containing:

  • The principal contractor’s name
  • A contact phone number, including an after-hours number
  • The location of the site office (where applicable)
  • A sign positioned so it is clearly visible from outside the workplace, e.g. on boundary fencing

While these are the minimum recommended requirements to comply with the WHS Act and Regulations, many builders choose to include additional safety information to help workers get started quickly and safely.

This means that in addition to the above, site signs tend to include site rules, required personal protective equipment (PPE), and key elements the project’s WHS Management Plan including emergency contacts and the location of the nearest hospital.

Can a Site Sign do more than simply meet compliance?

Yes! Meet the SiteBook SmartSign.

A SiteBook SmartSign combines a traditional construction site sign with a powerful, site-specific QR code capable of the following:

  • Site-Specific Digital Inductions

Each SmartSign QR-Code launches the project’s site-specific digital induction, complete with a custom WHS Management Plan tailored to that project.

Returning workers who’ve previously completed a SiteBook induction will find their personal details, emergency contact, and cards & tickets automatically carried over between sites.

  • Simple Attendance Tracking

Once inducted, the same QR-Code becomes the site’s attendance check-in and check-out system.

Every time a worker arrives, SiteBook automatically re-checks their induction. If any site requirements have changed or if the worker’s qualifications have expired since their last visit, they’ll be prompted to acknowledge updated induction or upload a new copy of their cards & tickets before checking in.

  • Digital Site Noticeboards with Sign-Off History

The SmartSign provides everyone checking-in with access to your site noticeboard, showing workers the latest announcements before entering site.

In addition, SiteBook maintains a complete version history for the project’s noticeboards along with a full list of date & timestamps for everyone who acknowledged it, making communication and audits a breeze.

  • Verified points of contact for each worker

Every worker checking-in to site provides a verified mobile phone number during their induction.

This gives site managers an accurate, up-to-date contact list for everyone currently associated with the project, making it easy to:

  • Send site-wide emergency SMS notifications
  • Contact individual workers or contractors
  • Issue compliance reminders
  • Follow up with SiteBook’s defect reports and corrective actions modules

This new ease-of-access to important contact details gives site managers a simple, reliable way to communicate with everyone on site.

  • Secure Access to Plans & Specifications

The SmartSign also provides controlled access to project documentation.

Workers belonging to any company which has been assigned to the project by an Admin or Manager are given read-only access to the latest shared plans and specs for the project.

Unrecognised workers are automatically quarantined until approved by a site manager, helping to protect your project information while allowing easy access to approved contractors & suppliers.
